KITAAB KHAANA
> THE LIBRARY PAVILION
This project aimed at supporting the Sorai Nagar Community of Ahmedabad, by developing an educational infrastructure for their children. It did so by supporting a local NGO ―Sahay―, which regularly conducts classes for those with precarious schooling, and similarly lack infrastructural resources for basic conditions of comfort during their evening classes. Consequently, Sahay sought collaboration with CCA to construct a place that would alleviate this, while encouraging further educational habits. The construction of this reading space, known as ‘Kitaab Kaana’, was undertaken as part of a Winter School initiative in conjunction with CEPT University, involving students from disciplines ranging from architecture to engineering and interior design over a 10-day period, resulting in a pedagogically significant architectural object that draws from various typologies of temporary architecture of the Indian subcontinent, addressing both climatic conditions and cultural traditions in frugal yet sensible ways.
